About Me
Connor Young is a Vermont-born trumpeter, composer, songwriter, and educator whose work moves fluidly between jazz and folk. A graduate of McGill University in Montréal with a degree in Jazz Performance, Young has become a distinctive voice on the Vermont music scene, releasing four albums over the past three years.
Young first gained recognition as a composer and trumpeter with Flight of the Starlings, a straight ahead jazz record praised for its thoughtful and ambitious arrangements. His artistic path broadened with From Me to You, a sprawling, self-recorded, folk-inspired album that marked a decisive turn toward songwriting. Seven Days described the record as “a masterful mélange of late-night musings and early-morning affirmations,” highlighting its intimacy and stylistic range.
In 2025, Young released Here’s to Now, a cinematic contemporary jazz album featuring an expanded ensemble and a string quartet. Occhi Magazine described Young’s work as “a testament to both versatility and heartfelt artistry,” noting his ability to “push creative boundaries, blending genres and personal storytelling in ways that resonate deeply with listeners.” The album further established Young as a composer bridging jazz, folk, and classical influences.
His most recent release, From Me to You Vol. 2 (2026), represents his boldest and most personal statement to date. The album has been reviewed by multiple publications, with arts writer Tom Huntington calling it a “masterful magnum opus” that “seals his status as one of the more intriguing musical artists around.” Young’s music emphasizes atmosphere, narrative, and human connection, often blending jazz improvisation, folk songwriting, and modern indie sensibilities. His recent releases have solidified his reputation as a singular, independent artist with a distinctive and evolving voice.
In addition to performing and recording, Young is a dedicated music educator and an active presence in Vermont’s music community. He was awarded a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council to record “Here’s to Now” with his octet in 2025. Whether on stage, in the studio, or in the classroom, his work is rooted in curiosity, craft, and a commitment to making music that feels lived-in, honest, and deeply human.
